Upon completion of developing my films, i have discovered that the lack of flash from my loom camera due to lack of battery power meant that the film from the shoot came out extremely underexposed, in order to rectify this, i will use the technique of burning in in the dark room.
If i find myself in the situation of using my lomo camera upon location, i will be sure to bring a spare supply of batteries. I was grateful for the use of a tripod during my shoot as this allowed the images to be framed in the same style and with a remote release and a self timer, i had full control over the camera, even thoguh i didnt actually have direct contact with it.
The above pictures shows the test strips of my film contact sheet that i produced whilst trying to print the contact sheet with the correct expose, with these i concluded that my images needed to be digitized via scanning the negatives in order to successfully bring them to their full potentials.
Upon completion of scanning, many of the negatives as they were underexposed came out like this:
Although technically this may seem unfortunate that the images were underexposed, i could then go about working them in my favour as with my techniques and skills many of my images actually comprise of underexpose, so that when bringing out the contrasts and vibrance the image takes on a whole new vibrant, stark look.

The above is a final image of mine, portraying the deadpan stylings of my intentions, matching that of my initial final image with my other subject. Upon post production of the images, i decided that i wanted a single image, selected from the 4 individual upon the negatives, i manipulated this images by adjusted contrasts, white balance, various tone levels, burning in and dodging different areas and adding a gradient filter of a sepia toning. I believe the image works well as by adding the filter, giving the image a very aged feel, changing the tones and contrasts to create a harshness to the image, while at the same time removing much of the details within the image, creating an amount of intriguing aspects within the image for the viewer to investigate. The subtle details creates a 'half blank' canvas feel for the image, leaving a large amount of story left untold for the viewer to decide and decipher for themselves. The subject appears lost, almost alone full of emotion, eyes wandering off to the distance. The image, i cropped in a fashion that hold enough information, not to put the story on the plate for the viewer but to leave an amount of wonder and confusion, cropped slightly more in favor to the right hand side of the image, leaving the subject to gaze off in thought to the left of the image.

The above image is the 2nd of my intended images, portraying the intimidating side of my subject, unlike the above image in which the subject appears thoughtful, open and full of emotion. This image was intended to emanate strong, harsh emotion upon the viewer in whcih they are uncontrollable against. Like the stylings ive used within the first image of adjusting various aspects like gradients, contrasts, brightness, tone levels aswell as burning in and dodging individual aspects of the image, ive used these techniques in a different fashion. With these techniques my aim was to, in this image emphasize the raw emotion and ferocity from the subject, burning in gritted teeth, clenching fists and bulging veins and tendons, the subject is pained and staring through gritted teeth and into and through the viewer themselves almost overpoweringly and completely intimidating.
Why i used 35mm:
I used 35mm film as i feel i have strong capabilities in this stylings of photography, i used this format in order to portray my capabilities in not just the digital field of photography and post production. I also used 35mm, paired with a high speed film in order to bring out the harsh, stark, graininess of the image, leaving little detail, making the viewer to make their own assumptions while also making what details they can make out more questionable or intimidating.
Why i used a lomo camera: I used the lomo 4 lens camera as i was looking for a specific shot, this meant that for every shot i took,m i would have 4 chances of catching the moment. Also as i was looking for a harsh, grainy shot this means that by the time the negative was enlarged from an already grainy film, i could then make it even harsher and grainier my multiplying the individual image size by 4 as i selected only 1 of the images.
Why i added aged stylings and gradients to the images: I felt that with old styled images, the lack of details and colours gave a sadistic ancient feel to the images in the fact that the image automatically ages before the eyes of the viewer, maybe they are looking at a dead man?
Were the images relevant to my intentions: My aims were to create 2 images in which i wanted to portray an intimidating subject in 2 lights, one of which the subject is not intimidating, but open and vulnerable to the world, lost in thought, i feel that in the first of the above 2 images i have achieved that. The second of my intended images was to see the subject as any other person would see them in their exaggerated mind, harsh, strong, pained and intimidating, through gritted teeth, the subject is portrayed before our eyes straining and fierce.
What can the images be used for: My images can be used for exhibition works, i would expect to see these in a gallery or on display somewhere. I do not believe they could be used for advertisement, fashion or even as stock images as the look and feelings emanating from the images impacts the moods and emotions of the viewer far more than any other of these styles of photography. My intentions upon the images being displayed is to have them printed on a larger than life scale, looming over the viewer in an intimidating and overpowering fashion in which the viewer feels insecure and humbled beneath the overpowering of the subject within the image.
What are the images intended audience: My intended audience for these 2 images is for the use as fine art pieces, they hold individual, unique characteristics that i have formed from my feelings, emotions and imaginations. They are a documentation of my wishes and portrayal solid emotion over and above a solid story.
